Four Weddings and a Miracle
Posted on July 16, 2009
(Alternate Title: Why this blog has been quiet for the past six weeks)
Look! It’s a new blog post from us! I promise I’ve had good intentions to update the blog over the past several weeks but we’ve kind of had our hands full. Literally.
Allow me to introduce you to the “miracle” part of this blog entry:
Anderson James Homburg arrived one week before his due date on 6/11/09. It’s a good thing he came early since he already weighed 9lbs 2.8oz at birth! I’m sure I’m pretty biased, but I think A.J. is the best, sweetest, most amazing baby in the entire world. And I still feel this way at 3 in the morning when he doesn’t want to sleep and at 3 in the afternoon when I’m on my third shirt because he’s peed/pooped/spit up on the previous outfits.
June isn’t exactly the most ideal time of year for a pair of wedding photographers to have their first child, but we’ve been blessed with help from an amazing photographer to help us through this busy season. Heidi of HJ Selch Photography took my place in late May when my huge swollen ankles and even bigger baby belly made it nearly impossible to walk. While I really miss being there to shoot on the wedding day, I still get to be a part of the experience. You didn’t think those hundreds of images edit themselves did you?
So, without further ado, here is a quick peek at the four In This Moment Photography couples you’ll be seeing more of in the next few days as I attempt to get this blog up to date.
Stephanie and Chris tied the knot in Oshkosh on 5.30.09
Kris and Chris braved a wedding day rain out for some fun with our rainbow umbrella on 6.6.09
Brandon and Katie’s wedding in Stevens Point on 6.27.09 took Karl back to one of his favorite places to shoot, the grounds at Sentry Insurance.
And finally, Heidi and Steve will never look at Independence Day the same way after their beautiful wedding on 7.04.09
Each of these couples will have their own blog entry in the coming days, so check back often for more updates! And I’m sure we’ll squeeze in a few pictures of AJ along the way. Once he’s old enough, I’m sure he’ll run from the camera but for now he’s a willing model for us!

Welcome to This World: Baby Jason
Posted on November 25, 2008
NEENAH, Wis: I’m so excited to add Jason to my list of babies I’ve documented in the first few weeks of their life. As an older newborn, he taught me a few things about babies who are past the sleeping 20 hours a day phase.
When we first started, Jason closed his eyes every time my shutter clicked, but after a couple of minutes he figured out how to work it for the camera.
This might be my favorite baby shot ever. He’s looking at me like, “What’s going on here?? Why are they looking at me??”
Jason was sporting a “Future Quarterback” sleeper, so I thought this “Touchdown!” pose was especially appropriate. I’m pretty sure I know what he’s celebrating though. This was the last shot we took in this outfit. A moment later a wardrobe change was VERY necessary.
Normally the soft fuzzy white stuff sends babies off to dreamland. But not little Jason. He was squirming around and making himself quite comfortable. So cute!
It didn’t take long for Jason’s “big brother” to get in on the action. A boy and his dog…the baby years.
And because I have a soft spot for the four legged fur babies, I had to grab a couple of shots of this guy. Hang in there buddy, your life will never be the same!
Safe in his mom’s arms, Jason felt comfortable showing me a little bit of personality.
I believe this is the, “Hey mom, I’m so hungry I’m going to eat my whole fist” face.
But before he ate, Jason had to plan a world takeover with his dad. Or maybe they were talking football.
Kurt and Angie, thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this fleeting time in your lives. I hope we’ll meet up again when Jason can sit up and wrap his arms around a football.

Welcome to this World: Baby Luke!
Posted on July 10, 2008
GREEN BAY, Wis. There are few things that make me feel more like a grown up than when my friends become moms and dads. It kind of makes you see everything in a new, amazing light. With that said, I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Angie and Mike’s first child last month. And Baby Luke did not disappoint, arriving into the world weighing a remarkable 11 pounds 5 ounces!
Of course I did what any respectable friend would do, grabbed the camera and headed for the hospital. Okay, if we’re being honest, my friend Barb and I were already en route before we got the, “It’s okay to come to the hospital,” phone call. We were excited!
And there she was, sitting alone in the room with her new son. At that moment, our friend Angie became a MOM! Huge!
And being the woman that she is, Angie was tolerant enough to actually let us hold the little man. I’ve held a few babies in my day, and I can say with certainty holding Luke was like toting a 3 month old! Angie will have biceps of steel by the end of the month!
Well, that’s only if Dad lets her hold Luke! He seems pretty attached.
Here they are in their first official family photo! Luke thought it appropriate to sleep through the experience. But it’s okay, because exactly one week later I was on his doorstep for his first at home photo shoot!
Despite this one image, I believe he was, in fact, happy to see me. The truth is, I love capturing crying babies. Such a little man, using every fiber in his body to make himself heard. You’ve got to love that!
I also love how once there’s a baby in the house there is suddenly no need for television. We’ll all just sit and watch the newborn. Way more entertaining that reality tv.
Can I say again how stinking cool it is to see my friend as a mom?
Clearly, Luke thinks Angie is pretty cool too. He was totally content to just chill in her arms. And occasionally he’d acknowledge my presence for a moment and give me some super cute look. We are clearly BFF in the making.
Believe it or not, there are more pictures to share. I think I’ve lost track of the number of times I cried while editing these photos and putting together the slide show. It could have something to do with the amazing music of Renee and Jeremy. If you’re a parent, or know someone who is a parent, or you just like soothing music, go to their website. It’s possible I have listed to their CD on repeat for the past month, just waiting to use the music in a slideshow. It’s grown up friendly lullabyes and kids songs.
So without further ado, Welcome to This World, Baby Luke. Here’s your slideshow.
I look forward to many, many photo sessions in our future.
