Stephanie and Chris: Engaged November 2008!

Posted on November 25, 2008

OSHKOSH, Wis: If there’s one word that sums up our session with Stephanie and Chris I’d say it is FREEZING. Because both Chris and Stephanie live out of the area, we were forced to shoot on a VERY cold November morning. The kind of day where the wind is blowing so much your eyes water and random snowflakes are swirling around.

But these guys were troopers! They don’t look cold at all, and I’m pretty sure at this point I could no longer feel my nose.

Casually chatting, or devising a plan to get out of the cold as soon as possible? You be the judge!

This late in the year we didn’t have many leaves to work with, but thankfully this weeping willow was holding out just for us.

I think they’re laughing at me here, after I made some stupid comment like, “Hey can you guys look up at eachother?” I blame the cold. It was messing with my brain.

Unfortunately, this little play hut didn’t do much to cut the cold wind.

Stephanie and Chris, thanks for risking hypothermia to meet up with us! We’ll see you next May when it will hopefully be much MUCH warmer!

Enjoy your slideshow.

Welcome to This World: Baby Jason

Posted on November 25, 2008

NEENAH, Wis: I’m so excited to add Jason to my list of babies I’ve documented in the first few weeks of their life. As an older newborn, he taught me a few things about babies who are past the sleeping 20 hours a day phase.

When we first started, Jason closed his eyes every time my shutter clicked, but after a couple of minutes he figured out how to work it for the camera.

This might be my favorite baby shot ever. He’s looking at me like, “What’s going on here?? Why are they looking at me??”

Jason was sporting a “Future Quarterback” sleeper, so I thought this “Touchdown!” pose was especially appropriate. I’m pretty sure I know what he’s celebrating though. This was the last shot we took in this outfit. A moment later a wardrobe change was VERY necessary. :)

Normally the soft fuzzy white stuff sends babies off to dreamland. But not little Jason. He was squirming around and making himself quite comfortable. So cute!

It didn’t take long for Jason’s “big brother” to get in on the action. A boy and his dog…the baby years.

And because I have a soft spot for the four legged fur babies, I had to grab a couple of shots of this guy. Hang in there buddy, your life will never be the same!

Safe in his mom’s arms, Jason felt comfortable showing me a little bit of personality.

I believe this is the, “Hey mom, I’m so hungry I’m going to eat my whole fist” face.

But before he ate, Jason had to plan a world takeover with his dad. Or maybe they were talking football.

Kurt and Angie, thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this fleeting time in your lives. I hope we’ll meet up again when Jason can sit up and wrap his arms around a football.

Carlene and Ryan: Engaged October 2008

Posted on November 25, 2008

CEDARBURG, Wis: I have to say Carlene and Ryan’s engagement session was quite an educational experience. Growing up in the suburbs, I don’t know much about farm life or farm animals. For example, I had no idea that cows come when they’re called and like to be around people.

Take this gal for example. When we first walked into the field, I grabbed this shot with my zoom lens.

A few minutes later, I took this shot. No zoom. I was really THAT CLOSE to a cow. And let me tell you, cows are a lot bigger when they’re up close and personal.

I think Carlene and Ryan were quite amused by my reaction to the approaching cow. And speaking of, check out the ladies behind them hamming it up for the camera.

As geeked out as I was over the cows, Karl was equally as excited about the corn fields. He’s been wanting to shoot in a corn field for a year now. Unfortunately, we’re kind of afraid of tresspassing, which eliminates many of our chances.

Another cool part of shooting on a farm: neat old buildings!

And old worn out wood!

This field, surrounded by cows, is where Ryan proposed to Carlene! I’m pretty sure there aren’t many people who can say cows witnessed their proposal!

Carlene and Ryan, thanks so much for having us out to the farm. We had such a great time! Can’t wait for the big party next May!

Tracy and Joshua: Engaged October 2008!

Posted on November 25, 2008

APPLETON, Wis: Karl and I are always encouraging our couples to be themselves, pretend like the camera isn’t there, just enjoy spending some time with each other. Well I can say from the very beginning of the process, Tracy and Joshua didn’t need any coaching!

See, totally ignoring our presence!

And they smooched without coaching too! :)

I just love people in love.

I also love this little corner at Lawrence University. We’ve walked the campus a dozen times, but I never noticed the ivy until this session. So neat!

I very rarely convert images to black and white when we’re dealing with cool fall colors, but this shot felt chilly to me. And again, they’re totally not paying attention to us. It’s a good thing we talked in between locations or I would have developed a complex!

How cool is the sun peeking through the leaves? It makes the trees all glowy! Glowy being a technical term.

Tracy and Joshua, I’m so glad we were able to make our schedules work for this session. It was great to meet you guys and now we’re even more excited for the wedding! Oh, and thanks for the random Washington D.C. trivia. :)

The Dvorak Family: Fall Fun October 2008!

Posted on November 25, 2008

Kimberly, Wis: Two years ago was the last time we met up with the Dvoraks for fall family pictures. In that time, they’ve added another girl to their family. Definitely time to update those portraits.

The colors at Sunset Park were perfect! Despite the fall backdrop, it was a steamy 80 degrees during our shoot. Shorts and tee shirts probably would have been a little more comfortable!

Look at Anna showing off her standing skills. And slightly off camera, Daddy is showing off his joke telling skills, which Evan clearly appreciated!

Back in 2006, we took a very similar picture of Mom carrying Ella. Isn’t it crazy how much can change in a couple of years?

By this point, I think the sweaters were getting to be a little much for the kids, but they were willing to cooperate for just a few more shots!

So we returned to the rock wall we had visited a couple of years ago to get an updated picture of the family. Clearly, Anna thinks the rock wall is very fun.

Thanks guys for meeting up with us on what I know was a very busy weekend!

Tyler and Amber: Engaged October 2008!

Posted on November 25, 2008

CRIVITZ, Wis: Karl and I encourage couples to pick a location for their engagement session that means something to them. For Amber and Tyler, that place is a family cabin near Crivitz, so Karl and I packed up the car, and our warm clothes for a trip up north.

I took this shot while trying not to notice that my dear husband was climbing down the side of a cliff to get a different angle. I think this is right about the time Amber shouted down, “You know, there aren’t any hospitals near by!” Thankfully no photographers were harmed in the making of these photographs. :)

Did I mention it was ccccccooooold? It made for a good excuse to cuddle up nice and close!

Another example of Karl sliding..I mean climbing…down a steep hill for a cool angle.

Our walk around the cabin was so pretty. You know, Tyler and I share a last name (my maiden name) so I’m thinking maybe I can claim some long lost relation and somehow score another invite to the cabin? Maybe? No? Well, okay then.

Speaking of beautiful locations, these two are getting married next summer at one of our very favorite spots, Homestead Meadows. We can’t wait to spend some time out there again.

We all know I have a soft spot for the furry friends, so we had to wrap up this session with a “family photo.” Look at how well the dogs were paying attention! It’s probably because I was saying things like “Treat!” while making funny faces.

Tyler and Amber, thanks so much for showing us around! We can’t wait for next summer!

Ashton and Josh: Married October 18th, 2008

Posted on November 25, 2008

GREEN BAY, Wis: Ashton and Josh could not have asked for a more perfect wedding day! The fall colors were in full bloom and it wasn’t too cold to be outside enjoying it. As a result, you’ll see plenty of pretty leaves in this blog post. But first….the ceremony!

The neatest thing about the bridal room at Green Bay Community Church: a small tinted window that looks out to the chapel. Ashton and one of her bridesmaids took advantage of the window to peek as the guests were being seated.

Ashton and her father shared an emotional moment when he arrived to walk her down the aisle.

Just a few minutes later, Ashton was walking back down the aisle with her new husband!

We learned at their engagement session that Ashton and Josh have a soft spot for vehicles of the Volkswagen variety. Josh had a friend of his bring his latest project to the park so we could honor the bug with some photos!

Speaking of honoring the bug, if you look close you’ll notice Josh’s new wedding ring has the VW logo engraved in it. Now that’s love.

This picture should make Ashton very very happy. Why? It’s a tooth smile! Josh doesn’t show his full smile very often, we were excited to catch this.

Ashton, on the other hand, is always smiling and laughing. A big gust of wind caught us all by surprise and made for a funny photo op.

I love this view of the bridge at Pamperin Park. And apparently I’m not alone. We took this picture standing just a few feet away from another photographer!

This may be my favorite reception moment ever! You see, I have terrible memories of the song Footloose. Those memories involve a very intoxicated man falling and clunking his head while busting a move to this song at a wedding reception. Karl and I were at that wedding and guests, and now anytime we’re working and hear Footloose we get a little nervous that someone might get hurt. Thankfully, after Josh and Ashton’s awesome performance, I have a new memory to think back on the next time I hear Footloose.

Ashton and Josh, we had so much fun with you guys!!! Thanks for including us in your special day!
